Title: “1984″

I find this book “1984″ to be somewhat dark, yet interesting at the same time. I interpret this book as being primarily about the hidden motives and the dark sides of humanity. The fact that a human being can brainwash another human being, is quite disturbing…to be honest. It’s sickening to read a book like this knowing the fact some governments around the world are really controlling; not to this extent with the thought police, or the telescreens, but in other ways they control the people; and not care at all about the people starving and dying while they sit on their stack of money and watch the destruction, as if they were in a theater watching a movie and eating a supersized popcorn, while enjoying every bit of it. Reading this book reminds me of when we see a scary movie, and we see the killer, we try to yell at the characters (as if they can hear us) to tell them to get away. This book makes me want to yell at the characters and tell them to wake up to see the contradictions that runs all throughout that party.

Why is being secretly watched, such a big deal? I don’t see it as a big deal that there are security cameras placed everyhere, from: schools, shopping malls, gas stations, to downtown Dallas. Honestly, I feel a greater sense of security with the fact that there are so many cameras around. I’m not at all saying that having a camera near by is the ultimate protection, but it can definitely help. My dad served as a police officer years ago, and I once asked him what was one of the best ways of correctly and effectively catching a criminal, and he stated that there were several cases in which the use of cameras came in handy when trying to go after a criminal; being that it helped them identify the individual immediately. So, there are advantages to having a camera around. Yet, on the contrary, sometimes knowing the fact that there are cameras around keeps a person paranoid and being constantly aware of someone watching them. Also, there are times when a camera is not necessary to have, especially if it’s someone who isn’t out to protect the community, who watches people…then, that’s when it becomes CREEPY. Other than that, cameras are essential in today’s world. People who don’t agree with having necessary cameras in public places must have something to hide, other than that they wouldn’t have to be in such strong oppositon to the idea of having cameras everywhere.

Past Perceptions

The other day I was watching a documentary on the story of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and the guy who was behind all of the horrific murders of those many people. I’m not a psychologist, but I do realize that every decision or action taken by a person, always has some kind of background story of what made a person do what they did. As I got furthur into the documentary, it was said of him that he felt lonely in his early years of life, considering the fact that all of his intermediate family members died, almost back to back. Growing up, his mother always told him to stay away from women (I guess she figured that it would hurt him), and actually she did more harm to him by telling him that then actually helping him. When he grew up, though he loved his mother, at the same time he had some resentment toward her because of what she fed him mentally as a child. He perceived his past as being fiiled with fear, rejection, hate, love, all of these mixed emotions. In a way, I think that the fact that she tried to keep him away from women made him more curious and want to rebel against his mother’s wishes. As people, we sometimes tend to lean toward things that are considered forbidden or bad.Those emotions and events that happened earlier in his life would ultimately turn him into a murderer;bringing into account that his victims were all women.This, in my opinion would be a perfect scenario of how past recollections or perceptions can ultimately define one’s present.
